Who are the top Calgary Flames of all time?  Here is our top 10 countdown:

10. Gary Suter: across eight plus seasons in Calgary, Suter began his career as Calder Trophy winner in 1985-1986 and racked up 400+ points on the blueline, including a career-high 91 points in 1987-1988 to finish top-10 for both the Norris and Hart Trophies.

9. Lanny McDonald: co-captain of the 1988-1989 Stanley Cup-winning team, McDonald played the final seven-and-a-half seasons of his NHL career with the Flames, tallying over 400 points and winning both the Masterton and Clancy Trophies.

8. Johnny Gaudreau: known as “Johnny Hockey”, Gaudreau was a star for nearly a decade in Calgary, posting 609 points in nine seasons, including a career-best 40 goals and 115 points in 2021-2022, and winning a Lady Byng.

7. Joe Nieuwendyk: the 1987-1988 Calder Trophy winner as top rookie, Nieuwendyk scored 40+ goals in each of his first four full seasons in Calgary (2x with 50+) and went on to score 300+ goals and 600+ points across nine seasons as a Flame while winning the Stanley Cup in 1988-1989.

Mike Vernon: in addition to backstopping the Flames to the Stanley Cup in 1988-1989, Vernon had three top-10 Vezina finishes in his 13 seasons with Calgary (runner-up in 1988-1989 with a league-leading 37 wins) and held most of the franchise goaltending records prior to Miikka Kiprusoff’s arrival.

5. Mark Giordano: a steady presence on blueline, Giordano spent 15 seasons in Calgary (#2 all-time in games played) and tallied 500+ career points as a Flame, highlighted by winning the Norris Trophy in 2018-2019 and the Messier Award a year later.

4. Miikka Kiprusoff: the winningest goalie in team history, Kiprusoff spent nearly a decade in Calgary and holds most of the franchise goaltending records; he was a workhorse in his prime with seven consecutive seasons of 70+ games played and 30+ wins, highlighted by winning both the Vezina and Jennings Trophies in 2005-2006.

3. Theo Fleury: despite his diminutive size, Fleury was a menace on the ice with 300+ goals and 800+ points across a decade plus in Calgary (both franchise records until surpassed by Jarome Iginla), highlighted by a career-best 51 goals and 104 points in 1990-1991.

Al MacInnis: known for his blistering slapshot, MacInnis spent his first 13 NHL seasons with Calgary and is arguably the greatest defenseman in Flames’ history – along with a franchise-best 609 assists, he posted over 800 points with the team, finished top-10 for the Norris Trophy 6x, and won the Conn Smythe during the team’s 1988-1989 Stanley Cup triumph.

Jarome Iginla: the heart and soul of the Flames for more than 15 years, Iginla was a skilled power forward who tallied over 500 goals and 1,000 points with Calgary and holds most of the franchise career offensive records, along with a slew of individual awards: 2x Richard, 1x Pearson, 1x Ross, 1x Clancy, and 1x Messier.
