H2H 168: Marian Gaborik vs. Rick Nash – Who was Better?

With the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets entering the NHL as expansion teams in 2000, each new franchise sought to build via the draft.  In early years, the Wild and Blue Jackets drafted Marian Gaborik and Rick Nash, respectively, with high first-round draft picks to serve as franchise cornerstone players.  Each forward eventually went on to have an illustrious career with the team that drafted him, sitting at or near the top of various career offensive categories, e.g. goals scored.  Moreover, the duo had similar overall career lengths and statistics, thus making for an interesting comparison:

H2H 160: Peter Bondra vs. Milan Hejduk – Who was Better?

With the split of Czechoslovakia into two sovereign nations in 1993, this resulted in two hockey-rich countries in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  From the likes of Jaromir Jagr and Patrik Elias on the Czech side and Marian Hossa on the Slovakian side, each nation has produced a plethora of elite NHL players and in particular, is renowned for offensive talent.  Two of the best goal-scorers to emerge from each half of the formerly unified countries have been Peter Bondra of Slovakia and Milan Hejduk of the Czech Republic – both 50-goal scorers and NHL scoring leaders during their illustrious careers, each racked up over 800 career points, thus prompting the question:

H2H 103: Marian Hossa vs. Alexander Mogilny – Who was Better?

As part of the 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame class, Marian Hossa was selected in his first year of eligibility; while Hossa was certainly worthy of induction, Alexander Mogilny, who has been on the ballot for more than a decade, was snubbed once again.  Yet a closer look at the statistics and accomplishments of Hossa and Mogilny show two players who were relatively evenly matched in terms of both peak performance and overall career achievements – thus, let us compare these two offensively gifted Eastern European NHL stars and evaluate the question:
